I was born in 1941 but did not start painting until my wife and I moved to our retirement village in 2007. I had dabbled in drawing from time to time but have never had a lesson in painting. What you see on this website is the result of trial and error, plenty of patience and heaps of encouragement.
The inspiration for my painting comes from my wife who was the most resilient person I’ve ever met. I married Nola in 1963 and we raised two children.
She was diagnosed with scleroderma at age 50. We travelled extensively until she had one leg amputated at 70 years of age, and her second leg amputated at age 75. She died on the 7th of April 2022 after significant health problems. She was a happy person who lit up the room.
The legacy she left was one of critical encouragement. She believed you could do anything you set your mind to.

The subject matter must hold my interest as I am a slow painter. That doesn’t worry me because I get lost in the background story while painting. It’s like writing a book. Some of my paintings are drawn from my life experiences. It’s up to the viewer to interpret each of these ideas for themselves. For this reason, I don’t have much time for still life, but love to extract ideas from my imagination. Hopefully some people think the way I do.
“You can do anything you set your mind to.” - Benjamin Franklin

St Mary's by the Sea is a sought after location for non-denominational weddings for groups from "down south".
Our Corgi was called Tasman and he loved my wife. In this study the mother is the cornerstone of the family.
From my imagination. The theme was inspired by the disco era, when the artist was a young man.
The masculine approach to flower arrangement. We grew our own white roses. I still prefer them to other colours.
From my imagination. The beauty of the Barrier Reef with the ferocious hunting by the Baramundi.
The first barbeque in our Retirement Village was a real event. Residents planned and established the new area.
A party theme that appeals to the sisterhood amongst women. Girls just want to have fun!
You don't lose your competitive spirit because you're older. These guys turn up twice a week and rarely miss playing.
Painted after a trip from Strahan to Rinadeena (Tas.) by this train. The people are from my imagination.
Crepe Myrtles are great flowering shrubs, but the autumn colours of the leaves are superb in the court where we live.
Ornamental Pears in full bloom during our Covid problems. The gardeners were wearing masks as they worked outside.
The old man loads the sheeves of oaten hay to maximize the load. It will be dark before he finishes. My imagination.
Helios (sun god) brings the dawn. Homer named the horses as the solar steeds Pyrois, Aeos, Aethon and Phlegon.
